purple turnips and pink pomegranates

At last I found yarn to begin this sweater. Alafosslopi  Icelandic Lopi wool in a grey/blue colour. There's no rush I'm so enjoying my first sweater knitting in-the-round, knowing how much time I'm going to save stitching it all up. And I'm reading...(I use the term loosely)...two amazing sock books, Sock Innovation and The Joy of Sox. I found a cute pair of colourful fair isle ones that I think H will love.  They have a kind of hippy vibe that will suit my daughter's hippy bedroom, and inner rock-hippy soul. And for myself some simple grey ones knitted in an offset rib pattern that I like....

The nights are drawing in and noses are running. It's perfect knitting weather and we snack on pomegranates that are full of antioxidants, and sit on rugs that have been dyed with their seeds and boiled baby turnips with chilli salt and lime juice that I'm told are anti-biotic, so ignore their bitter taste. We brought them all back from a colourful Turkish market in London at the weekend along with a box of sultana grapes, dried limes, big bottles of Greek honey, purple figs and sweets from the cutest little Persian shop I've ever seen, all clad with wood. Life is cosy and warm...

I'm joining with ginny for yarn along again today...

...why not come too...

  2. I really like the socks Debby, my family calls me a hippy so they really 'speak' to me;)
I'm sorry to hear you are a little under the weather. I can't wait to tell my husband about turnips, he loves them and will eat them standing in the middle of the field.[ It's one vegetable I just don't eat]. I have started taking grapefruit seed extract and adding elderberry syrup to my smoothies so ward off any bugs that accompany the colder weather [that I am still waiting on!].

    1. Actually I think there's a bit of one in me too Tracey...

Interesting about grapefruit seed extract I had no idea it was good for you. And the elderberry syrup...I haven't made any and wonder now if there are any berry's left...there is an elderberry tree in the woods at the end of the garden...I'm going to pop out now and have a look. Seems I may be making syrup today.

Thanks for sharing all this useful information with me.
      Have a fruitful day.

I know it's that time again...unfortunately I've run out of yarn so I'm popping out to get some more today...(after I've checked the garden for elderberries thanks to good advice from Tracey.)

I hope that your day is full of fun things including lots of knitting too.

  4. Yay to finding the yarn!!!! And good luck avoiding getting any colds or flu. I keep my fingers crossed and hold my breath as I pass "sick" people. Probably the ones without symptoms are contagious though :/ Have fun knitting!!

  5. Those sock books sound wonderful - I love the title 'The Joy of Sox'!
Noses are just starting to run a bit here, too. I need to make up some elderberry syrup this weekend, I think. Perhaps I should have done it last weekend... Hope you are all feeling well soon. xo

      I know that title's funny isn't it...

I 'm going elderberry hunting now too...I hope there are still some berries on the tree. Good luck with yours...maybe we can compare notes next time?

Hope it's a fruitful day for you...both knitting and elderberry wise...

  6. Lovely photos. As much as autumn is my favorite season, I agree with you, the fear of colds and illness looms. Definitely good to care for yourself and boost up your immune system and stay healthy! A pomegranate is my kids favorite treat and so nutritious. Enjoy your knitting!

    1. Thank you Angela. We're having an amazing autumn so much better weather wise than summer...it rained almost all of August when most people are on holiday...Now we're having amazing blue skies...

Pomegranates are so good for you...I read some research recently that said the seeds can prevent the growth of aggressive cancer sells...They sound like real super foods...and they just so beautiful and taste delicious as well.

Hope you enjoy your knitting too.
