Yarn along

My annabel is coming along fine.  I've taken a leaf out of Lori's book and decided to make secret pockets too. I'm not quite as brave as she is though. Rather than cut the cardigan once made, I'm attempting to knit them as I go.  Looking at her finished cardigan I think she placed them about twelve stitches-in from the begging and end of the row,  around the level of the fifth button. So as I reached the fifth button row...or there-abouts, I knitted twelve stitches and then cast off the next twelve. I continued knitted until the last twenty three stitches, cast off twelve stitches and then knit to the end of the row.  On the following row I increased twelve stitches back over each of the twelve cast off at both ends. I'll pick up stitches later to make the pocket linings...I'm not sure what colour yet. I'm also not sure if that makes sense, hopefully it will work out ok.

My local yarn store is very good and if you don't have the budget to buy all your yarn on one day, they will lay it by for a month for you. As I've been spending so much on felting wool for other projects, I needed to control my yarn buying a little. I laid six aside for the annabel. I've been excitedly buying two 100g balls each week. Planning to slowly knit them over the following week. But each time I get them, I knit them both on the first evening so have to wait a whole other week to do any more. I am now two thirds of the way through and only have one evenings' knitting left. Just need to get the last two balls...I can't wait.

And reading? A few different things this week. Articles in
The Big Issue, Andre Tartar on the US election race, Mike Shinoda on the same thing, Charlie Higson's letter to his younger self and the film reviews...which are usually spot on.

All my old October copies of Martha Stewart's Living. I can't throw them away the pictures are so beautiful...and the October issues are always the best.

Novel-wise, a crime thriller, Sam Bourne's The Righteous Men which is lovely to read when I'm all safe and sound snuggled up in bed.

And two new-to-me blogs (as well as all my old time favourites.) The first one I discovered when I saw this poster for the Hogacre Harvest Festival and had to go in for a closer look.  It sounded like something out of Harry Potter and it looked amazing, so I checked out the blog and it all sounds wonderful. Hopefully we'll go next weekend and I can tell you more about it.   And this is the other one a nice sunny bright one with a lovely home and family, you might like to check it out too.

I'm joining with another lovely family over at  Ginny's  again for yarn along...

...coming?

  1. I think I would knit the pockets in as I go, but I am not a pocket person in cardigans...Love your wool and what a great idea for yarn shops to accommodate all kinds of spending policies :) Love your yarn!!!

  3. Debby, your Annabel looks amazing and what a great idea for the pockets. I think I understand how you did it and now have plans to do the same thing on the one I am working on for my Mother in law. I still have not put pockets in my first sweater, I just can not bring myself to CUT all my work, especially as that is the one with the more expensive yarn.

I wish my LYS had the same layaway yours does, and I will be calling her today to see if she likes the idea. I have had to put a lot of projects on hold due to the expense of the yarn.

    Have a great Wednesday.

  4. What lovely gifts you're making for your family...how lucky they are. I hope it works out ok.

Hannah loved the hippy ones I chose for her in The Joy of Sox. At the weekend we looked at it together and she's asked if instead of just one pair as stocking fillers and other gifts I will just knit her lots of pairs out of the book. It's going to be fun...I'll start as soon as my annabel's finished.

    Happy knitting.

    1. Thanks Alisa. It looks a little more grey in the photo's than it actually is because there was no natural light when I photographed...but it is a lovely blue/grey and so soft.

    1. Hi Shu Han. So good to hear from you.Things are good thanks.

I know it's been a mad summer, and autumn seems to be going the same way. Your blog looks so lovely even nicer every time I look.

Thanks for good wishes. It's so exciting opening the shop especially my first order, then another and two reservations. Baby steps...for now...Hopefully the shop will just get fuller of good things. I always have my eyes open for vintage kitchen ware.

      Bye for now.

  11. You are always so wonderfully and very creatively busy Debby ... visiting you here is like receiving a much needed breath of fresh air. :)

How lovely that your local yarn store helps out in such a way ... that would most definitely help with the budgeting amongst various projects. I've been reading lots lately too ... I find it a very useful way to fill in time on the daily commute to work, and also that reading is just such a wonderful thing to do in general.

    Take care. xx
