Tuesday: Roasted Butternut Squash with Goats Cheese and Homemade Waterfalls...

Last night rain drummed on the roof as a storm broke, cooling the clammy air. This morning lovely noisy torrential rain streamed down the windows as thunder crashed. If you listen you can hear the claps. Eventually the sun came out and the rain dried up.

Tonight 'A' who is not exactly the handy man but will have a go at anything, decided that there was a problem with the water pressure and that he needed to do a spot of home plumbing. At first I thought another cloud had burst until I realised that it wasn't  raining and the sound was actually inside the house. A mini Niagara was running down the kitchen wall...There was a lot of running for towels to cover anything that might get damged and holding them up to try and quell the waterfall.

We're waiting now for the real plumber to arrive.

Meanwhile comfort food like this roasted butternut squash with goats cheese with it's crumby garlicky topping is perfect for times like this. You can find the recipe here.

  1. Oh my sister made a tossed salad with roasted butternut and it was delicious, so I know your recipe is divine. Bummer about the plumbing. When we came home from Canada in May we had a leak in the basement. He tore out the ceiling and then we had a plummer fix it. It was a mess and a pain but all is well now. Good luck!

  2. yummo butternut is my favourite - we call it a pumpkin in Australia. We only refer to small yellow squash as squash. Funny isn't it how we've developed different names for things.

    1. II agree it is funny Jodie I suppose they are all from the same family but butternut is really my favourite...so much sweeter than regular pumpkin. We eat tons of them.

  3. I agree this sounds delicious - but then I am addicted to pumpkin. Hope not too much water damage.

    1. Fortunately there was very little damage, thank you. I think we caught everything just in the nick of time. I'm sure I'm addicted to pumpkin too...I don't know what I would do with out them.
