Capturing my love of whole foods, combined with the activity of a bustling kitchen.
A weekly collection of photos from the center of my home.
* * * * *
There is so little time for cooking or writing, even photographing at the moment. Especially as the knob has jammed in my camera and I'm using A's. But the door to the little portal holding in the batteries of his, came off in my hand so his is broken too, and I've had to Sellotape it in. It isn't very efficient and keeps switching off when I use it.
Even so, the kitchen is busy and when I have a spare hour I've been making Persian Polows like this one, as they last for one or two days. Or quick chilli prawn spaghetti. 'A' keeps foraging on his way home from school. Bringing home wild greengages or plums that become crumbles and plum sauce, to eat, or freeze.
The kitchen table was very tidy for one day but now it looks like a volcano has erupted on it, spewing out book and paper and cardboard box magma. So sometimes we are eating store bought sushi or naughty KFC for 'A', who thinks he's in heaven. The kitchen table is spending more time holding the mini library of school exercise or art books that H, whose home from uni is sorting out. But we are having fun as she reads out the essays she wrote ten or more years ago. But very embarrassed at the untidy state of the house as we prepare to move, as this week seems to be, the week for unexpected visitors deciding to drop in and say 'hello' or 'good bye' to us.
I am joining with heather for her weekly blog hop
...but what about you, are you coming too?

Hello dear.. I was here last week but did not leave a comment but loved it all as today is lovely, too.. Summer is so busy and then you are packing.. So exciting, though. I thank you for your sweet visits my way.. Take care and God bless.. xo
ReplyDeleteThank you for stopping by again Faye and adding your lovely comments. I'm glad that you survived the storm and that everything is well in your world.
DeleteHappy days,
debx
I hope your camera woes get better! I love the clean table shot, rarely is my table clean. You look like you are knee deep in the busy of relocating with all of those boxes!!
ReplyDeleteI hope they can be repaired I just need time to take them. I think it will probably have to wait until we've moved now. Like you I hate when the table is full, unless of course it's food or sewing.
DeleteHave a lovely weekend.

There is something so deeply satisfying when that table manages to get cleaned off, isn't there? And I know how you feel about chaos--we went through our own version of that this winter (long story). Meantime, let those gorgeous plums distract you from it all! Everyone's posts this week are reminding me of favorite summer foods that I need to be eating!
ReplyDeleteI know...it instantly seems to induce calm. I hope that calm has been returned to you too after your hectic winter.

Our table is always full of things: books, toys, tablet, notebook, something to drink on the way... a clean table is a kind of dream here!! It's plum time also in Uk, isn't it?? I made de smoothie with fruits I had around the fridge and the result was very good ^_^ A hug from Italy
ReplyDeleteAh. I know how you feel Valeriacrea. I suppose that's family life isn't it. Yes it its plum time. They are delicious.
DeleteHave a wonderful weekend.

Hi Debby!
ReplyDeletea nice photos of your house, lovely plums.
I see that you're starting to pack, good luck.
happy Sunday
Hi Montse, it's good to hear from you. Yes there are boxes everywhere so with not much time to bake we are enjoying all the lovely fresh produce. Your lemon cake looks delicious I will have a go at making it once we've moved.
DeleteHave a lovely week,
debx
Moving is so exciting, but also a lot of stress and work. Soon the boxes will all be unpacked in your new house and you will be starting a lovely new chapter in your life. I am looking forward to seeing you new kitchen! But, I will miss this one, too, which has become familiar to me through your beautiful photos. I love the pictures of the bowls of fruit. Red plums and . . . I am embarrassed to admit that I don't recognize the green fruits with the light striping and brown woody stems. What are they?
ReplyDeleteI had forgotten just how stressful it is Susan. I was sure that I wouldn't let it get to me, but I have been quite stressed this week. Today thankfully the people who are buying our house have asked for some more time...I'm relieved to be able to slow down just a little and do other things than packing, or endless emails and phone calls. I will miss the kitchen too but my new kitchen has a wonderful view over the little cottage garden. It will be desperately wild by the time we move in but lovely and green (hopefully). It will take a long time to get it do the work needed but once I start cooking there I'm sure that it will feel like home.
DeleteThe green fruits are mostly greengages. The little striped ones are four gooseberries off my gooseberry bush. I think the squirrels must have eaten all the rest. I usually get at least enough to make a pie!
Take care,
debx
Your photos are lovely, even though you are having camera difficulties. Isn't it just the pits when our cameras decideto take a hiatus?!?! I love that "A" forages for fruit on his way home from work. Greengages...never have had them, but they look like something that I would like to try.
ReplyDeleteI can only begin to imagine how busy you are with all the packing...yet how excting! It must be only days before you make the final move. Take care...and don't foget to "take five" now and then.
Thank you Emily. I know it's a struggle but it will be so good when I get mine back. They are a bit like sour plums. Quite sharp and the few little stripy ones are gooseberries. They are also quite tart but lovely with honey or sugar in a pie.
DeleteI thought we only had a few but thankfully things have been extended a little. We are going this weekend with one of my sisters and husband to take my car and show them where we will be living. I can't wait to go back for another look.
Have a lovely week.
