Yey I've Got A Porringer Like Graddad's - And News of A Giveaway

Yey my porringer arrived on Thursday.....I thought I'd missed the UPS guy whilst dashing out to get final presents for 'A'...but no, I was back in time to catch the courier bearing the gift from CSN for my review. I'd only ordered it on Sunday so that was really speedy. As usual it came in copious packaging to protect the contents but apart from the manufacturers box, it was all recycled. I was really happy about that.

There it was, all shiny and new just like granddad's porringer .....except that his was beige enamel and mine is stainless steel, and the inner pan is non-stick with a glass lid.

I just had to have porridge for breakfast. But the burning question was, could I recreate granddad's porridge?.....I had to take on the challenge.......

I poured some hot water into the bottom pan. Carefully measured out five tablespoons of oats, a little cold water, a spoonful of honey and the seeds from a cardamom pod because they have a lovely aromatic flavour that I love. So the recipe was not quite granddad's......he wouldn't have added the cardamom but a big pinch of salt.

Then I put it on the hob on a low light and left it. Fantastic. It seemed as though it cooked much quicker than usual but that could just be because I didn't have to hover over the pan stirring. The results were amazing, the texture different to any I've ever made before the oats were cooked through and soft and none stuck to the pan! I wish I'd found a porringer ages ago, just think of all the burnt pans it would have saved!

But to add the authentic touch of granddad's porridge it had to have a drizzle of cold milk on top....actually I'm sure that if it had been the real McCoy it would have had a massive big spoonful of Lyles Golden Syrup stirred in too.....

I love my porringer...I'll definitely be using it to melt chocolate and I'm going to have a go at scrambling eggs in it too or poaching them...I wonder if it would work......ooh and what about quinoa or couscous maybe I could try those.....definitely be doing some experimenting.....

I'm so pleased with it.....all I've got to do now is write a review....

Ooh and before I forget...some good news....
CSN are partnering me for a give away to a reader in the US, Canada or UK over on my other blog 'making dens'...why not check it out.

You too could be the proud owner of a porringer.....or something else...what ever's up your street.....
