"Nothing is hard in life unless you allow it to be hard." Rohan Anderson Whole larder love
Weekend began with clear skies and meteor showers. We didn't see any, but there were lots of reports of "green tailed meteors and colourful displays Just like bonfire night."
Saturday morning a sunny, crisp start woken by robin redbreast's song. An extra hour in bed and then a bit of leisurely blog reading...of...I'm ashamed to say..."cabin porn." ...There, I've done it!...I have to have my log cabin fix every so often, and cabin porn has the most amazing ones you'll ever see.
That was it...I was smitten...a cute little sketch at the top of the page...(I didn't like the gun... but I overlooked it because the author's motto is 'grow, gather, hunt, cook'.)
I saw the wilderness where he lives, and raced through the images of food he forages, secret river he doesn't want anyone to spoil, cute tent he camps in with reindeer blanket, and the amazing meals he makes for lovely wife and even cuter kids...oh and lovely kitchen...
I read his words and he seemed to be actually speaking to me in a calm down-to-earth, no nonsense manner. Making self-suffiency sound so easy...
"To be honest, once the plant is in the soil you just keep an eye on it, water it when it’s dry and then harvest it. It’s really not hard. The same goes for keeping chooks. Once you’ve built the hens’ enclosure, you just have to feed and water them and collect the eggs."
I stopped rushing through the pages of gorgeous pictures and slowed down. It was a calming experience and inspired a number of egg related dishes over a weekend that involved lots of time in the garden and woods, working on a new project that will hopefully be revealed tomorrow and ended with other cabin related entertainment experience...Sadly not real but on TV, Kevin McCloud:Man Made Home. His most recent off the grid build with the help of local craftspeople in the heart of Somerset. Made with trees from the woodland that surrounds it, that he hugged and then cut down and blasted with gunpowder...and then encouraged us all to exorcise our inner shed by actually building one...
