Yarn Along

“Onward and Upward! To Narnia and the North!”― C.S. Lewis, The Horse and His Boy

It may look like it, but those aren't the same stitches I showed you last time. The thing about photographing your project and sharing it for all who care to see on Yarn Along, is that when it's up there on the screen in all it's glory...It may not look quite as glorious as you first thought it was.

Back when you were in the throws of excitement, having mastered the stitches and begun to see the pattern evolve, you can't wait to share. But now you notice the untidy edges or split stitches and that everyone else's projects look so much neater and tidier than yours. It starts to niggle at you, and you just can't rest until you've unravelled for the forty-ninth time and started all over again. Just one last time.

But there is no going back now, no more unravelling, upwards and onwards until I've completed it. I've even got the linen ready to make the next one (or two.) A ball of deep petrol blue and grey yarn was peeping at me from the £2 bargain basket in my local yarn shop.  Then I spotted another one...and another...seven in all...yay...seven hundred and sixty three yards.

But in-between other patterns beckon,  like this one with it's unusual neckline and lined pockets. I can't wait to begin. With all that stocking stitch hopefully I'll be able to read at the same time too...

I keep re-reading this because the words constantly draw me back and this for the same reason. But I've just begun Paul Torday's 'Salmon Fishing in the Yemen.' I'm expecting subtle humour and simplicity, nothing to deep or meaningful. A light summer read...

Joining with Ginny for Yarn Along...You coming too?

  1. You are so funny Debby. I thought I was the only one who unraveled dozens of times before finally being satisfied. That was a great find at your yarn store and such pretty yarn too. Oh, and I love your basket!

    1. Good to find a kindred unravelling spirit Tracey. I was pleased with the yarn actually there's much to much really for a shawl so I'm going to see if I can find a pattern for something else.

  3. I watched the Salmon Fishing in the Yemen movie a few weeks back. Obviously not the same as reading the book but it was an interesting story line. Not exactly what I was expecting but still enjoyable.

    1. Oh thank you Karen. The basket is lovely isn't it. It's from a little yarn shop that was sadly closing down. It also has a big sister. I asked the owne rif I could buy the big one if she wouldn't have any need for it after the shop closed, and she gave them both to me! Wasn't that kind? I was thrilled to bits. She told me they came from Africa.

It isn't a porch but the painted wooden floor boards in my study/work room. I've always wanted a house with a porch...Maybe one day...
      Have a great weekend Karen,

    1. Good to hear from you Caz. Thank you, I can't wait to start the cardigan, I just need to get some more yarn. I have a feeling I'll be doing both projects at the same time.

I'm glad you like All Passion Spent. I thought you might like it. I had the same experience. I just picked it up one day from the bookcase...I don't even remember buying it. It might have been mum's or one I bought an never read. Reading the back of the book I wasn't expecting very much but found it such a gently compelling read.

      Go Google...It's wonderful...
