This week in my kitchen 18 :: My favourite fruit cake recipe

I think this will be the last time I can share in the blog hop for a few weeks. We move next Thursday Wednesday to our little old house. We will be a bit out in the sticks and not exactly sure when we'll be conneted with the rest of the world again.

Cooking has been fun if a little pot luck. Fridge, freezer and cupboard foraging to use up as much as possible before we go. Hence the somewhat random combinations. It's been a bit like one of those game shows where two audience members bring up a bag of random ingredients for chefs on opposite teams to attempt to produce the best meal. Surprisingly there have been a few winners that may actually get made again.

I also managed to bake two cakes using my favourite fruit cake recipe. One to snack on when we take a break from packing and the other to take with us...You never know who may drop in for a cup of coffee, and it will be nice to be able to offer them a slice of cake too...

I'll hopefully be back soon but first I'm linking over to heather's blog for her 'this week in my kitchen' blog hop, hope you can come too...

have fun

  1. Okay, if this is foraging, I'm coming to England to live and eat with you. You have no idea how pathetic "foraging" would look in my house! As usual...all looks wonderful (that soup/stew made me want to go cook one myself, right now! Wait...that might be work avoidance, too).

Good luck with the move--looking forward to seeing the *new* kitchen and house setup!

    1. That would be so good if you could pop in for lunch Erin. But I've peeped into your kitchen and know that yours would be amazing. Doing this has made me realise how often we go shopping when If I just have a good root around the kitchen cupboards or fridge I can soon rustle up something edible.

Thanks for the good luck wish. Have a great weekend.

    1. Thanks Valeriacrea. It's a bit hairy, lots to do. I keep thinking that I will forget to do something really important. Hopefully we will just get things sorted out in time. Oh tomatoes and mozzarella...sounds like very good foraging. Scrumptious.
      Happy weekend to you too.

    1. Thank you. I have to say that with all that's going on it does help me feel a little bit in control to know that I have one already secreted away in a tin.

  10. Oh, Debby, I'm so excited for you. As I read your post, I realized that tomorrow is moving day. I hope you get lots of rest and enjoy every minute of the first day in your new house.
Your meals look scrumptious, as usual. I'm excited to check out the links to the fruit cake recipes; both my mom enjoy a slice of fruit cake with tea.
