Rosy again...Big skies Herefordshire...

Just for a moment the rose coloured spectacles slipped...Only for a little while. I think it was because I'd caught a horrible bug that made me very sick and tired for three days. Then the one room that actually seemed as though it may soon look habitable to normal human beings and not just to Stig of The Dump, had a few hiccups. The wood burner was installed, curtain rail in place, curtains that I'd made from a £2 bargain basement linen remnant were stitched, lined and hanging, the furniture up-cycled with a sanding and few coats of egg shell paint. Cushions plumped, shelves filled. All waiting for the rotten door to be replaced so the flooring could go down; and life begin again. Perfect.

The talented carpenter was all set to make the new door, he just had to remove the lintel to take a few measurements...That was when the crumbling beam was exposed. A builder called in, plaster taken off walls and it seemed as though everything was back to stage one...Even minus one. You've seen the pictures. That was when my glasses fell off.

I know that we are very, very lucky and that there are  people who don't even have a roof, let alone a bed and a shower. But for a while there, I forgot.

But then I got better and we went for a drive and just look at those big old blue skies, even the grey ones. They are something else. Those spectacles are planted firmly back on this nose again. A bit of window shopping here and warm cake here helped...Oh and of course, great company..

hope you have some warm cake too...

    1. Thanks Karen, I appreciate that. The life size statue is cool isn't it. It's of the English composer Edward Elgar.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edward_Elgar
I have a fun photograph of Ahmad posing with him.
      Happy days,

  2. Hugs Debby, it sounds like you need one. I'm glad you got out and went for a drive, just getting away helps doesn't it? I'm so sorry you have been ill and now all of this, that's the pits. Oh those renovations can be so tricky [My Mike use to be a residential contractor specializing in renovations], but in the end you are going to have a lovely home and just think of all the stories you will have to tell. Stay strong and just exhale, it will all work out.

    1. Thank you Tracey...I can feel the good calming vibes emanating over the sea from you. I'm upbeat most of the time but just get the odd pang of missing a more organised home every so often. I know that we will get there soon. We are having a quieter week with no builders so a chance to sort out a bit. Next week they will be back, that will be good too because things will get done.
Hope you enjoy happy knitting days as the bone in your poor painful toe knits together too.

  3. Thank you so much, Debby, for sharing the lovely photos of your trip out...the scenery is spectacular! I get to "travel" to your beautiful country with each of your posts.
I'm so sorry to hear that you were unwell and that construction seems to have taken a few steps back. I can only imagine how discouraging that must have been. Glad you were cheered by the lovely blue skies, a bit of shopping, and some tasty treats.

    1. Thanks Emily. There is so much beauty around to console me if ever I get a bit low. It reminds me of why we came here. I'm usually fine and very positive but think it was because I wasn't well that it got me down. Hopefully one day your travelling won't just be photographic but in real life.
      Take care,
