I remembered some of the holidays I'd had as a child.....the boats we used to own like Solveig. I can't remember what the other one was called, and the adventures dad concocted for me and my three sisters including hidden treasure, maps and compasses..........a la 'Swallows and Amazons'.....
...which does give you some idea of the architecture of the building.....but not the lovely homely feel with a higgledy piggle of tables........and it is always busy and has a nice friendly buzz....the staff are always helpful..........
....I could photo the food though......the pumpkin soup was delicious as was the choice of homemade bread.......'S' opted for wholemeal and a swirl of cream in her soup.......I went for the raisin and walnut bread, which was something else......'A' had coffee and cake chosen from an awesome range of home baked ones.......

The food isn't at all restauranty it's just homey comfort food.....the best mushroom risotto that I've tasted .......and according to 'A' they do great meat dishes. The vegetables which are all organic are mostly sourced from Worton Farm in Cassington. Everything else wherever possible is local, organic and Fairtrade. I noticed the lamb on the menu was Wytham lamb a village down the road.....so it is genuinely local.......but we managed to resist anything too harty as we had a roast dinner to look forward to after a good walk home......
Wow, that looks lovely. Is it Chester? The walk up the river looks a lot like the one into York. I will have to come back to Chester and find this delicious place! H
ReplyDeleteChester is lovely Hannah, but no this is Oxford...
ReplyDeleteThanks for the peek into your Easter. What fun you must have had as a child on those boats.I can just imagine the contrast between the cold outside and the warmth in your favourite cafe. My favourite bookshop's cafe has been closed for 3 whole months! It's soon to be re-launched as a bakery cafe - I can't wait.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds lovely, I wish we could meet there for a coffee and a chat........books and coffee....ooh and cakes too.....heaven.....
