The garden has been really kind to us this year. I'm not sure if it's anything to do with the strange weather we've had. Snow until February, than a dry spring, followed by an amazing hot summer with a few odd showers. Everything is producing abundantly, including these delicious gooseberries. The gooseberry bush on the vegetable patch died away a couple of years ago. Just about the same time I discovered a little new one across the other side of the garden....which isn't really that far, because it's not very big. It must have been the result of a stray pip......I was thankful that I hadn't weeded too rigorously that year or I would have probably weeded it out....then we wouldn't have been able to enjoy this lovely gooseberry crumble. I have a friend who grows gooseberries. Sounds like a good thing to have in the garden. If only I had a bigger garden, and more time to be in it.
ReplyDeleteFruit bushes are the easiest things to grow if you have a little bit of ground. They take hardly any looking after at all. Which is why we've gradually planted more and more. If we plant anything like lettuce we are just feeding the deer and rabbits....oh and snails and slugs....
