Birthday Meal at Trojka's

Friday arrived at last..along with A's birthday and torrential rain all day long....

But we had the best time ever......despite awful traffic in London and thinking we'd never get there on time. The violinist playing Eastern European music was awesome....and I had to be almost physically restrained from getting up and dancing in the middle of supper.... No-one could keep their shoulders from dancing though, and there was a big temptation by us all to eat in time with the music...

It was so good to see everyone....one person looked a little shocked at the venue. I think they'd been expecting the golden palace that is the Russian Tea Rooms in New York.....not realising that it's the shabby laid back atmosphere that's the whole point of Trojka. That's all the fun. But they soon got it, and can't wait to go back.

The food was good, not fantastic, mine was much too salty, and I'm almost certain more expensive than on the website menu. But the atmosphere made up for that. I'm sure I took photos of the food but I can't find them! I had the Hunters Stew which sounds very meaty but was chicken and the others had a variety of chicken dishes or steak. I think everyone was too busy whispering and directing me to take their photo, making sure that I manage to also get in the camera viewer the two actors who were sitting on the table behind us. I got tons of those but none of the food....and I didn't even recognise the actors......they always looks so different off camera and out of make-up.

I did get pictures of the deserts though and the Apple Charlotte and Baked Cheese Cake lived up to past memories and apparently the Hungarian Chocolate Torte was awesome too. I had to try a Russian tea with cherry syrup which was delicious and even joined in and had a Ukrainian Beer which was really nice and were brought to the table in the cans...which added even more to that authentic flavour.........not surprisingly our table was the last to leave........

..an amazingly atmospheric evening...even bumped into a straggly little urban fox in the early hours of the morning.....

  1. I'm so glad you had a wonderful night! I was worried that you might have been disappointed after such a long wait. Wish I could have joined you for dessert and a Russian tea with cherry syrup...
