yarn along

SOCKS...I made so many pairs last year that the pattern was indelibly ingrained in my mind. I've promised to make some for a kind blogger friend whose organised a thoughtful project... I need some too...The first pair is on the needles. I'm using some randomly died sock yarn from here because it's a cool colour and because it's 75% wool and 25% polyamide, nice and soft but won't wear too quickly. I go through tons of socks...all that running about in stocking feet. The pattern is my favourite Quickie Socks in The Joy of Sox (love that title).

My annabel pullover's almost finished and I can't wait to start wearing it. Just one more sleeve to knit and thread in those pesky yarn ends. Like the annabel cardigan, the garter stitch makes it a little bulky and because of the boxy unshaped body, it's not the most flattering sweater. But it's going to be so cosy and comfy to wear. It took hardly any time to make  and half the amount of yarn I expected...so there's lots spare...Just think how many socks I could make...

There's been little time for reading lately except for catching up on friends' blogposts. Oh and Hannah's  latest article about the Bristol school of artists on The State of the Arts magazine where she's the Museums, Galleries and Exhibition section Editor.

I'm proud of my little bean...

Best get knitting those socks in time for Thanksgiving.

I'm joining with ginny and nicole to share projects.
Are you coming along for a peek?

  2. Thanks Alina. It's so soft and comfy to wear. It's the attic that we're in the middle of decorating. It's a lovely place to hide away from everything.

  3. I like the sound of quickie socks and think I need a few on my needles.
What a gorgeous room Debby and you too! I was digging in my stash last night and
realized I have the yarn to cast on another Annabel, now if I can just find the time.
I know you are proud of your daughter, that is wonderful.

    1. The Quickie socks are a really nice easy one to make Tracey and I love the finish, especially when using plain wool it shows up the offset rib so well. Thanks for the nice compliments. It shows how good the annabel pattern is if after knitting eight, was it? that you still want to make another. Hope you find time to make one.
      Happy days,

  4. that photo reminds me of the Museum of Modern Art in Glasgow where the statue of Wellington (I think!!!) wears a traffic cone on his head!! Love it!! Makes me smile....
Annabel (in spite of it being in bulkier than my usual fingering wt !!! yarn!!!!) is one of my favorite sweaters (I made the cardi!)...I just might have to make that pullover. You look wonderful in it---and it really does look comfy/cozy. And that room!!! swoon. Perfect retreat!!!

    1. That sounds fun Steph. Thanks steph, it feels so good. I like that it fits so close around the shoulders, it's a bit like having a hug when I put it on. Must get the other sleeve finished before it's worn out!
      Have a great weekend,

  5. Your sweater looks so cozy, Debbie. Best of luck finishing that second sleeve. I always get second sleeve syndrome. Maybe I should knit vests? Love that area you're standing in! I have beam envy!

    Have a happy day!

    1. Thanks Jane...oh hope I manage to get them equal...I never thought about that...
The beams are great aren't they and we had no idea they were up there when we bought the house. There was just a trap door and no light it just looked like a black hole. It was very dirty. It will be well used. Hopefully we'll finish painting and start moving things up there today. I can't wait.
      Take care,

    1. Thanks Julia. I had a bit of a wobble with the socks. I think it was coming down with flu that did it. I will get back onto them though.
It's a really fun book, I made some over-the-knee socks from it too, for my daughter.

    1. Oh thank you Karen, I was trying on my new bargain-buy skirt. £2 from the town charity shop! It's a really good make. The outer skirt 100% pure silk and the underskirt 100% pure cotton. It even had the original label so I don't even think it's been worn before. It's all finished now and I've worn it a couple of times...but had a bad wobbly with the socks.

  8. Oh, Debby, your attic space is beautiful! What a cozy space to curl up with a blanket and a good book (if you can find the time for reading ).

    1. Thanks Emily, It's all finished now and we are in the process of putting everything in the right space. It will be great for playing board games at Christmas...a nice big space. Oh and yes definitely reading. In the end bit that looks like a barn there's a massive bed calling out to lie down and read.
